Mochila – Festival internacional de teatro para crianças e jovens
MOCHILA – Festival Internacional de Teatro para Crianças e Jovens, nasceu em 2021, na cidade de Faro.
O festival tem como principais objetivos a promoção da descentralização da oferta cultural; a democratização do acesso a uma programação artística multidisciplinar de qualidade, composta por companhias e artistas nacionais e internacionais de referência; e, também, a capacitação do público e das comunidades para o desenvolvimento de um pensamento crítico sobre o mundo contemporâneo.
Paralelamente à oferta programática da MOCHILA, decorrem diversas ações de mediação cultural, nomeadamente, o “Gang das Mochilas”, projeto que envolve jovens em idade escolar; o “ESTOJO – Laboratório Pedagógico do LAMA Teatro”, iniciativa que conta com a participação de elementos da comunidade jovem residente na região do Algarve.
Ainda dentro das ações de mediação, continuamos a dar especial atenção ao que se faz no Algarve, com um “Baile para Pais e Filhos” pelo Corpo Evolutivo; e o regresso do Cine-Teatro Maria Flaminga com micro histórias contadas por Rodrigo Gonçalves e Telma Saião.
Damos continuidade ao ciclo de conversas, momento que promove a troca de ideias e visões entre intervenientes oriundos de diferentes quadrantes. Este ano temos como tema “Mochila de Culturas – a arte, o acesso e o encontro”, com a moderação de Laure Dewitte e a participação de Adilson Correia Duarte, Madalena Victorino, Matilde Caldas e Rita Pires Santos.
Nesta edição do festival, é dada continuidade à apresentação de propostas artísticas ecléticas na área do teatro, da dança, da instalação, do novo-circo, da música e performance. Serão apresentados espetáculos de companhias e artistas nacionais, como Tiago Cadete; Terra Amarela; Companhia Absurda; Estúdio 13; Cláudia Gaiolas; Aletria – Biblioteca Itinerante; Corpo Evolutivo; Estação das Letras, Rodrigo Gonçalves e Telma Saião, entre outros; no âmbito da música teremos o concerto de Dino D’Santiago no Teatro das Figuras; DJ Set de SAM The Kid e DJ BIG com Sir Scratch; Um lanche para pais e filhos com a estreia do Dj Pa’Putos marca a abertura do festival e o Coletivo Gira é responsável pela festa de encerramento.
O festival MOCHILA continua com a sua dimensão internacional, levando até ao espaço público da cidade de Faro espetáculos de artistas e companhias estrangeiras: “Walo World” de Mr Copini; “WOOW!” de Cie Bruboc e “Idiòfona” de Joan Català.
A 6.ª edição da MOCHILA – Festival Internacional de Teatro para Crianças e Jovens, decorrerá entre os dias 1 e 10 de maio de 2026, na cidade de Faro.

MOCHILA – International Theatre Festival for Children and Young People was created in 2021 in the city of Faro.
The festival’s main goals are to promote the decentralization of cultural offerings; to democratize access to a high-quality, multidisciplinary artistic programme featuring leading national and international companies and artists; and also to empower audiences and communities to develop critical thinking about the contemporary world. Alongside MOCHILA’s programme, several cultural mediation initiatives take place, namely “Gang das Mochilas”, a project involving school-age youth, and “ESTOJO – LAMA Teatro Pedagogical Laboratory”, an initiative that includes the participation of young members of the Algarve community.
Within these mediation activities, we continue to give special attention to local initiatives from the Algarve, including “Baile para Pais e Filhos” (Dance for Parents and Children) by Corpo Evolutivo, and the return of Cine-Teatro Maria Flaminga, featuring micro-stories told by Rodrigo Gonçalves and Telma Saião. We also continue the talks cycle, a moment that encourages the exchange of ideas and perspectives among participants from different backgrounds. This year’s theme is “Backpack of Cultures – Art, Access and Encounter”, moderated by Laure Dewitte, with the participation of Adilson Correia Duarte, Madalena Victorino, Matilde Caldas and Rita Pires Santos.
In this edition of the festival, we continue to present eclectic artistic proposals across theatre, dance, installation, contemporary circus, music and performance. Performances will be presented by national companies and artists such as Tiago Cadete, Terra Amarela, Companhia Absurda, Estúdio 13, Cláudia Gaiolas, Aletria – Biblioteca Itinerante, Corpo Evolutivo, Estação das Letras, Rodrigo Gonçalves and Telma Saião, among others. In the field of music, the programme includes a concert by Dino D’Santiago at Teatro das Figuras; a DJ set by SAM The Kid and DJ BIG with Sir Scratch; “Um Lanche para Pais e Filhos” with the premiere of DJ Pa’Putos opens the festival; and Coletivo Gira will be responsible for the closing party. The MOCHILA Festival continues its international dimension, bringing performances by international artists and companies to the public spaces of Faro: “Walo World” by Mr Copini, “WOOW!” by Cie Bruboc, and “Idiòfona” by Joan Català.

Nesta performance única, Walo, o encantador mestre do malabarismo, viaja pelo festival, interagindo com todos e enchendo cada canto de surpresa e diversão. A digressão convida o público a descobrir o seu mundo: uma esfera gigante na qual Walo realiza incríveis exercícios de malabarismo, ao brincando com luzes ao ritmo da música, cria momentos mágicos. Walo movimenta-se pela multidão transformando qualquer ambiente num mundo de fantasia e encanto.

In this unique performance, Walo, the enchanting master of juggling, travels through the festival, interacting with everyone and filling every corner with surprise and fun. The tour leads the audience to a special spot where he invites them to discover his world: a giant sphere in which he performs incredible juggling acts.
Playing with lights to the rhythm of the music, he creates magical moments within the globe. This act combines roaming and stationary performance, adapting seamlessly to different spaces and settings. Whether moving through the crowd or focusing everyone’s attention on a single stage, Walo transforms any environment into a world of fantasy and wonder.

João de Brito é um ator da nossa praça natural da província Algarvia. Durante mais de duas décadas envergonhou a comunidade teatral com espetáculos medonhos, fez papéis medíocres em séries televisão, participou em alguns filmes, com cunha claro, e fez também anúncios para marcas multimilionárias onde recebeu patacas. Viveu intensamente a profissão — mas sempre no fio da navalha. Depois da pandemia os convites começaram a escassear e o mercado encolheu, Brito viu-se sem trabalho, sem rendimentos e, pior ainda, sem rumo.
Os amigos mudaram de área, alguns emigraram, outros desistiram. “Podes sempre ir para a hotelaria”, diziam-lhe — frase que começa a soar como um refrão. Mas Brito sentia que desistir do palco seria desistir de si próprio, da sua incompetência.
Num fim de semana, durante a festa de aniversário da sobrinha de quatro anos, Brito é apanhado de surpresa: a rapariga das pinturas faciais não aparece. Para não estragar o momento, improvisa — pega no seu utensílio mais próximo, o telemóvel, liga a mini coluna JBL que traz na mochila, e põe os miúdos a dançar com a playlist com que entretém o seu filho: abre a pista com o José Barata Moura, ilumina o espaço com a Mão Verde e Fachada, arrisca o icónico João Aguardela, sem descurar os Srs. Godinho e Alberto Moniz.
No meio do caos, surge uma energia que há muito não sentia.
Os miúdos loucos em cima das mesas e os pais ligeiramente alcoolizados gritam, riem, pedem “mais, mais, mais!”. Bebe um gole de Ginger Ale e vá de Ana Malhoa, Lena d’Água antes de fazer Fogo Fogo com o Dino.
O Brito reinventa-se. Com o pouco dinheiro que tem, compra uma controladora DJ em segunda mão, mete uma fita na cabeça, compra uma camisola de alças na primark, faz umas tatuagens, rouba uns óculos na multiópticas do Colombo, grava uns jingles e inventa coreografias. No princípio, as pessoas olharam com desconfiança — um ator a tocar para crianças?

João de Brito is an actor from our neck of the woods, a native of the Algarve province. For more than two decades he embarrassed the theatrical community with dreadful shows, took mediocre roles in television series, appeared in a few films—through connections, of course—and also did commercials for multimillion-dollar brands where he pocketed some cash. He lived the profession intensely—but always on a knife’s edge. After the pandemic the invitations began to dry up and the market shrank; Brito found himself without work, without income and, worse still, without direction. His friends changed fields, some emigrated, others gave up. “You can always go into hospitality,” they would tell him—a phrase that started to sound like a refrain. But Brito felt that giving up the stage would mean giving up on himself, on his incompetence.
One weekend, during his four-year-old niece’s birthday party, Brito is caught by surprise: the face-painting girl doesn’t show up. Not wanting to spoil the moment, he improvises—he grabs the closest tool at hand, his phone, switches on the mini JBL speaker he carries in his backpack, and gets the kids dancing to the playlist he uses to entertain his son: he opens the floor with José Barata Moura, lights up the space with Mão Verde and Fachada, risks the iconic João Aguardela, without neglecting Srs. Godinho and Alberto Moniz. In the middle of the chaos, an energy appears that he hasn’t felt in a long time. The kids, crazy on top of the tables, and the slightly tipsy parents shout, laugh, ask for “more, more, more!”. He takes a sip of ginger ale and goes with Ana Malhoa, Lena d’Água, before setting things on fire with Dino’s Fogo Fogo.
Brito reinvents himself. With the little money he has, he buys a second-hand DJ controller, ties a band around his head, buys a tank top at Primark, gets some tattoos, steals a pair of glasses from the Multiópticas at Colombo, records a few jingles and invents choreographies. At first, people looked at him with suspicion—an actor playing music for children?

Depois de um longo período de pausa, o Cine-Teatro Maria Flaminga reabre as suas portas, trazendo de volta a beleza dos micro espetáculos num formato intimista que o tornaram único no Algarve. Criado há cerca de dez anos por Helen Ainsworth e Kevin Plumb, o espaço combina a tradição de uma casa algarvia esquecida com a opulência de um cineteatro barroco, repleto de veludos e dourados. Agora revitalizado pelo LAMA Teatro, com o apoio da cooperativa Mandacaru, do cenógrafo Tó Quintas e da artesã Laura Dewitte, o Maria Flaminga renasce para 2026 com novas produções e espetáculos para todas as idades.

After a long period of closure, the Cine-Teatro Maria Flaminga reopens its doors, bringing back the charm of micro-performances in the intimate format that made it unique in the Algarve. Founded around ten years ago by Helen Ainsworth and Kevin Plumb, the venue blends the tradition of a forgotten Algarve house with the opulence of a Baroque cinema-theater, filled with velvet and gold. Now revitalized by LAMA Teatro, with the support of the Mandacaru cooperative, set designer Tó Quintas, and artisan Laura de Witte, Maria Flaminga is reborn for 2026 with new productions and performances for all ages.

Partindo das inquietações que atravessam o festival — o acesso à cultura e as exclusões invisíveis, a relação entre famílias, infância e experiência artística, o acolhimento, a diversidade e a inclusão nos espaços culturais, bem como a mediação cultural enquanto prática de encontro e ligação ao território — a sessão convida à construção de um diálogo aberto. Mais do que fechar temas, pretende-se lançar perguntas e criar um espaço comum onde a arte se afirma como lugar de aproximação, escuta e transformação coletiva.

Following the meetings held in previous editions of MOCHILA, this conversation is framed under the theme “Mochila of Cultures – art, access, and encounter,” offering a space for reflection and sharing among diverse voices and experiences. Drawing from the concerns that traverse the festival — access to culture and invisible exclusions, the relationship between families, childhood, and artistic experience, hospitality, diversity, and inclusion in cultural spaces, as well as cultural mediation as a practice of encounter and connection with the territory — the session invites the construction of an open dialogue. Rather than concluding topics, it seeks to pose questions and create a common space where art stands as a place of connection, listening, and collective transformation.

Sam The Kid and DJ Big represent two generations united by the same passion and a shared devotion to Portuguese hip-hop. History meets the present moment. How we got here and where we stand now—fitting, as each is, in his own way, a true ambassador. Samuel Mira excels as an MC and producer, and is increasingly sought after as a DJ, despite the packed schedule of Orelha Negra, who return to the stage this year with a fresh new album already being performed live.
DJ Big not only fulfills his primary role of leading the dancefloor by the hand but also stands out as a producer and remixer. He symbolizes the hip-hop millennials who, despite growing up in a digital landscape, sought out the roots and foundations, blending the digital world with that unique, inimitable human touch.

MONUMENTO é uma instalação sonora que reúne as vozes e ideias de 40 jovens em um espaço de escuta e reflexão. Quais são os seus desejos, o que deve ser lembrado e como o futuro pode ser monumentalizado? Eles propõem uma nova forma de pensar o amanhã, onde o futuro não é uma ideia fixa e imutável, mas algo em constante transformação, vivido nas vozes e sonhos de quem o imagina. MONUMENTO busca redesenhar os espaços de memória pública, criando um ponto de encontro para escutar diversas vozes, desejos e futuros possíveis.

MONUMENTO is a sound installation that brings together the voices and ideas of 40 young people in a space for listening and reflection. What are their desires, what should be remembered and how can the future be monumentalized? They propose a new way of thinking about tomorrow, where the future is not a fixed and immutable idea, but something in constant transformation, experienced in the voices and dreams of those who imagine it. MONUMENTO seeks to redesign spaces of public memory, creating a meeting point to listen to diverse voices, desires and possible futures.

Dino D’Santiago, natural de Quarteira, é hoje uma figura central da música portuguesa. Em termos musicais trabalha a tradição cabo-verdiana com o peso contemporâneo da eletrónica global, como prova o hino “Kriolu“, com a colaboração de Julinho KSD e co-produção de Branko. O artista algarvio, porém, já ultrapassou qualquer fronteira musical e social. Com um ano de 2022 absolutamente avassalador, a começar pela lotação esgotada no Coliseu dos Recreios (Lisboa), passando por momento incontornáveis como o NOS Alive, MEO Marés Vivas, entre outros, o músico português afirmou-se cada vez mais como um dos principais protagonistas da música contemporânea feita em português. Dino D’Santiago agrega público e crítica, todos juntos numa multidão que agora também se junta os seguidores do The Voice Portugal (RTP), programa televisivo no qual o músico algarvio assumiu o papel de mentor. Depois de uma tour pelos palcos a solo, deu a volta ao país em 2024 acompanhado por banda e foi nomeado para os Latin Grammys na categoria “Melhor Canção em Língua Portuguesa” com o tema“Esperança” acompanhado na autoria por Criolo, Nave e Amaro Freitas.
Dino D’Santiago é, sem dúvida, um nome incontornável da atual música feita em Portugal.

FOMO é um espetáculo imersivo pensado para espaços não convencionais onde o público não se senta: circula, observa, escolhe, perde. Partindo do conceito Fear of Missing Out, expressão popularizada pela Geração Z, o espetáculo mergulha no medo constante de ficar para trás, de não estar no lugar certo, de não viver “o momento certo”. Entre notificações invisíveis, vozes fragmentadas e ações simultâneas, os jovens espectadores são confrontados com uma pergunta simples e inquietante: o que acontece quando tentamos estar em todo o lado ao mesmo tempo?
Os intérpretes constroem um universo acelerado, instável, onde o tempo parece sempre a escapar. Cada escolha do público implica uma ausência: ao seguir um percurso, perde-se outro; ao ouvir uma história, silencia-se outra. O espetáculo assume o erro, a falha e a frustração como motores narrativos, espelhando a ansiedade quotidiana de uma geração permanentemente conectada e permanentemente em falta. FOMO não oferece respostas fechadas. Propõe uma experiência sensorial e emocional que transforma o medo de perder em matéria cénica, criando um espaço seguro para falar de ansiedade, pressão social, comparação e identidade. FOMO is an immersive performance designed for unconventional spaces where the audience doesn’t just sit: they circulate, observe, choose, and lose. Based on the concept of Fear of Missing Out—an expression popularized by Gen Z—the show dives into the constant fear of being left behind, of not being in the right place, or failing to live “the right moment.” Amidst invisible notifications, fragmented voices, and simultaneous actions, young spectators are confronted with a simple yet unsettling question: what happens when we try to be everywhere at the same time?
The performers build an accelerated, unstable universe where time always seems to be slipping away. Every choice made by the audience implies an absence: by following one path, another is lost; by listening to one story, another is silenced. The performance embraces error, failure, and frustration as narrative engines, mirroring the daily anxiety of a generation that is permanently connected and permanently lacking.
FOMO offers no definitive answers. Instead, it proposes a sensory and emotional experience that transforms the fear of losing out into scenic material, creating a safe space to discuss anxiety, social pressure, comparison, and identity. In the end, what remains is the rare possibility to stop, breathe, and accept that missing out can also be a way of existing.

Num espaço quimérico, desprovido da realidade, surgiram os Heqets — entidades originadas nas Dez Pragas do Egito, lançadas ao mundo com o propósito de o destruir. Contudo, ao longo dos séculos, estas criaturas evoluíram até à atualidade, formando uma espécie de “máfia” clandestina que age precisamente contra o objetivo da sua criação.
Em vez da destruição, dedicam-se agora à cura de um planeta Terra à beira do colapso. As suas ações desenrolam-se nas sombras, através de uma estratégia de infiltração no mundo humano, com o intuito de alterar o curso do futuro.
No fim, permanece a questão inevitável: quem é, afinal, a verdadeira praga?

In a chimerical space, stripped of reality, the Heqets emerged — entities born from the Ten Plagues of Egypt, unleashed upon the world with the purpose of destroying it. However, over the centuries, these creatures evolved into the present day, forming a clandestine kind of “mafia” that acts in direct opposition to the very objective of their creation. Instead of destruction, they now devote themselves to healing a planet Earth on the brink of collapse. Their actions unfold in the shadows, through a strategy of infiltration into the human world, with the aim of altering the course of the future.
In the end, one inevitable question remains: who, after all, is the true plague?

Um ouriço que sai da hibernação e tem comichão nos espinhos, que na sua sede descobre o seu reflexo. E até a descoberta do dia das mentiras. Será que o dia da liberdade nos ajudou a poder dizer que “não”? Poderemos algum dia fazer um piquenique na lua? Através de uma abordagem lúdica e informal, convidamos todos a participarem no piquenique e que nos ajudem a contar estas fábulas, onde não se fica só a ouvir, mas onde o público é também um participante no piquenique.

This time, it will be the people of Culatra who host a storytelling picnic, sailing through the Ria Formosa, discovering the tides, and placing the sun in the sky! In this informal show format for families, we will also witness the mythical race of the animals of the Chinese zodiac and discover why, in the end, the horse did not win. A hedgehog awakens from hibernation with an itch in its spines and, while searching for water to quench its thirst, discovers its own reflection. We will even explore the origin of April Fools’ Day. Did Freedom Day help us learn to say “no”? And could we ever have a picnic on the moon?
Through a playful and informal approach, we invite everyone to take part in the picnic and help us tell these fables—where you don’t just listen, but where the audience also becomes a participant in the picnic. We invite everyone, young and old, to come celebrate with us an unforgettable afternoon, where stories take us on a journey through these picnic tales.

Ponto de Encontro é um espetáculo que nos leva para dentro de um teatro momentos antes do espetáculo começar. Entre aquecimentos estranhos, regras misteriosas, superstições, fantasmas e uma voz que nunca se cala, acompanhamos a preparação de uma artista que tenta fazer tudo a tempo…mesmo quando parece que o espetáculo nunca chega a acontecer. Neste espaço onde artistas e público se encontram, descobrimos que o teatro é feito de imaginação, escuta e partilha. Um lugar onde se ensaia, se erra, se inventa e onde a magia acontece antes, durante e depois de “subir o pano”.
No final, o palco abre-se às crianças, que são convidadas a criar o seu próprio espetáculo, transformando o teatro no verdadeiro ponto de encontro entre quem cria e quem imagina.

Ponto de Encontro is a performance that takes us inside a theatre, moments before the show begins. Amid strange warm-ups, mysterious rules, superstitions, ghosts, and a voice that never falls silent, we follow the preparations of an artist trying to get everything done on time… even when it seems the performance may never actually happen. In this space where artists and audience come together, we discover that theatre is made of imagination, listening, and sharing. A place where one rehearses, makes mistakes, invents and where magic happens before, during, and after the curtain rises.
In the end, the stage opens up to the children, who are invited to create their own performance, transforming the theatre into a true meeting point between those who create and those who imagine.

É uma história de camponeses que trabalham a terra de sol a sol, a semear, a ceifar e a colher o trigo, que depois lhes será tirado das mãos. É uma história de injustiças, mas também de resistência. Catarina é a heroína desta história porque viveu uma vida dura, mas não perdeu a alegria e a vontade de lutar por um mundo melhor. Ela nasceu e morreu no Alentejo, enfrentou os poderosos e nunca deixou de cantar. No novo espetáculo do ciclo Antiprincesas, de Cláudia Gaiolas, vamos cantar com ela.

The story of Catarina Eufémia has no princesses or castles, no journeys to distant kingdoms or creatures never before imagined. It is a story of peasants who work the land from dawn to dusk — sowing, reaping, and harvesting the wheat that will later be taken from their hands. It is a story of injustice, but also of resistance. Catarina is the heroine of this story because she lived a hard life, yet never lost her joy or her determination to fight for a better world. She was born and died in the Alentejo, stood up to the powerful, and never stopped singing. In the new performance from the Antiprincesas cycle, by Cláudia Gaiolas, we will sing with her.

se forjam futuros investidores filhos de um capitalismo opulento e distraído.
Ali as especiarias curtem as peles, as rosas viram rosários que dançam rumbas, e um fado ou uma oração serve de banda sonora a políticos trajados de Vistos Gold.
Mas uma voz grita mais alto: somos todos, afinal, da mesma terra!

In a place by the seaside, life stubbornly insists on happening. Boats arrive with bare hulls,
from damp, rusted docks, with no protection against the salt nor the cold.
Their destination is a disguised luxury container where, far from true executive class,
future investors are forged — the children of an opulent and absent-minded capitalism.
There, spices cure the skin, roses turn into rosaries that dance rumbas, and a fado or a prayer becomes the soundtrack to politicians dressed in Golden Visas.
But one voice cries louder than the rest: in the end, we are all from “The Same Earth”.

Um homem arrasta um feixe de tubos de ferro de diferentes comprimentos, procurando um lugar onde chegar. Ao chegar ao local, os tubos desdobram-se de tal forma que o feixe ganha a vida do homem que o segura, num vis-à-vis entre eles e os olhos que os observam.
Um suposto acaso faz com que “homem e tubos” expliquem algo mais do que ser apenas matéria. São história e memória. São esforço, obstinação e poética. São ruídos e dureza. E também leveza.
Idiòfona é trazer leveza à crueza, encontrar harmonia no meio do ruído e construir uma vibração comum. É uma ode ao prazer da experiência partilhada.

A man dragging a bundle of iron tubes of different lengths and looking for a place to get to. When getting to the place, the tubes unfold in such a way that the bundle takes the life of the man who holds it, in a wine-to-vis between them and the eyes that look at them.
A supposed chance means that “man and tubes” explain something more than being only matter. They are history and memory. They are effort, stubbornness and poetics. They are noise and hardness. And also lightness.
Idiòfona is to make light of toughness, to find harmony amidst noise, and to build a common vibration. It is an ode to the pleasure of shared experience.

João de Brito é um ator da nossa praça natural da província Algarvia. Durante mais de duas décadas envergonhou a comunidade teatral com espetáculos medonhos, fez papéis medíocres em séries televisão, participou em alguns filmes, com cunha claro, e fez também anúncios para marcas multimilionárias onde recebeu patacas. Viveu intensamente a profissão — mas sempre no fio da navalha. Depois da pandemia os convites começaram a escassear e o mercado encolheu, Brito viu-se sem trabalho, sem rendimentos e, pior ainda, sem rumo.
Os amigos mudaram de área, alguns emigraram, outros desistiram. “Podes sempre ir para a hotelaria”, diziam-lhe — frase que começa a soar como um refrão. Mas Brito sentia que desistir do palco seria desistir de si próprio, da sua incompetência.
Num fim de semana, durante a festa de aniversário da sobrinha de quatro anos, Brito é apanhado de surpresa: a rapariga das pinturas faciais não aparece. Para não estragar o momento, improvisa — pega no seu utensílio mais próximo, o telemóvel, liga a mini coluna JBL que traz na mochila, e põe os miúdos a dançar com a playlist com que entretém o seu filho: abre a pista com o José Barata Moura, ilumina o espaço com a Mão Verde e Fachada, arrisca o icónico João Aguardela, sem descurar os Srs. Godinho e Alberto Moniz.
No meio do caos, surge uma energia que há muito não sentia.
Os miúdos loucos em cima das mesas e os pais ligeiramente alcoolizados gritam, riem, pedem “mais, mais, mais!”. Bebe um gole de Ginger Ale e vá de Ana Malhoa, Lena d’Água antes de fazer Fogo Fogo com o Dino.
O Brito reinventa-se. Com o pouco dinheiro que tem, compra uma controladora DJ em segunda mão, mete uma fita na cabeça, compra uma camisola de alças na primark, faz umas tatuagens, rouba uns óculos na multiópticas do Colombo, grava uns jingles e inventa coreografias. No princípio, as pessoas olharam com desconfiança — um ator a tocar para crianças?

João de Brito is an actor from our neck of the woods, a native of the Algarve province. For more than two decades he embarrassed the theatrical community with dreadful shows, took mediocre roles in television series, appeared in a few films—through connections, of course—and also did commercials for multimillion-dollar brands where he pocketed some cash. He lived the profession intensely—but always on a knife’s edge. After the pandemic the invitations began to dry up and the market shrank; Brito found himself without work, without income and, worse still, without direction. His friends changed fields, some emigrated, others gave up. “You can always go into hospitality,” they would tell him—a phrase that started to sound like a refrain. But Brito felt that giving up the stage would mean giving up on himself, on his incompetence.
One weekend, during his four-year-old niece’s birthday party, Brito is caught by surprise: the face-painting girl doesn’t show up. Not wanting to spoil the moment, he improvises—he grabs the closest tool at hand, his phone, switches on the mini JBL speaker he carries in his backpack, and gets the kids dancing to the playlist he uses to entertain his son: he opens the floor with José Barata Moura, lights up the space with Mão Verde and Fachada, risks the iconic João Aguardela, without neglecting Srs. Godinho and Alberto Moniz. In the middle of the chaos, an energy appears that he hasn’t felt in a long time. The kids, crazy on top of the tables, and the slightly tipsy parents shout, laugh, ask for “more, more, more!”. He takes a sip of ginger ale and goes with Ana Malhoa, Lena d’Água, before setting things on fire with Dino’s Fogo Fogo.
Brito reinvents himself. With the little money he has, he buys a second-hand DJ controller, ties a band around his head, buys a tank top at Primark, gets some tattoos, steals a pair of glasses from the Multiópticas at Colombo, records a few jingles and invents choreographies. At first, people looked at him with suspicion—an actor playing music for children?

After a long period of closure, the Cine-Teatro Maria Flaminga reopens its doors, bringing back the charm of micro-performances in the intimate format that made it unique in the Algarve. Founded around ten years ago by Helen Ainsworth and Kevin Plumb, the venue blends the tradition of a forgotten Algarve house with the opulence of a Baroque cinema-theater, filled with velvet and gold. Now revitalized by LAMA Teatro, with the support of the Mandacaru cooperative, set designer Tó Quintas, and artisan Laura de Witte, Maria Flaminga is reborn for 2026 with new productions and performances for all ages.

Partindo das inquietações que atravessam o festival — o acesso à cultura e as exclusões invisíveis, a relação entre famílias, infância e experiência artística, o acolhimento, a diversidade e a inclusão nos espaços culturais, bem como a mediação cultural enquanto prática de encontro e ligação ao território — a sessão convida à construção de um diálogo aberto. Mais do que fechar temas, pretende-se lançar perguntas e criar um espaço comum onde a arte se afirma como lugar de aproximação, escuta e transformação coletiva.

Following the meetings held in previous editions of MOCHILA, this conversation is framed under the theme “Mochila of Cultures – art, access, and encounter,” offering a space for reflection and sharing among diverse voices and experiences. Drawing from the concerns that traverse the festival — access to culture and invisible exclusions, the relationship between families, childhood, and artistic experience, hospitality, diversity, and inclusion in cultural spaces, as well as cultural mediation as a practice of encounter and connection with the territory — the session invites the construction of an open dialogue. Rather than concluding topics, it seeks to pose questions and create a common space where art stands as a place of connection, listening, and collective transformation.

MONUMENTO busca redesenhar os espaços de memória pública, criando um ponto de encontro para escutar diversas vozes, desejos e futuros possíveis.

MONUMENTO is a sound installation that brings together the voices and ideas of 40 young people in a space for listening and reflection. What are their desires, what should be remembered and how can the future be monumentalized? They propose a new way of thinking about tomorrow, where the future is not a fixed and immutable idea, but something in constant transformation, experienced in the voices and dreams of those who imagine it. MONUMENTO seeks to redesign spaces of public memory, creating a meeting point to listen to diverse voices, desires and possible futures.

Dino D’Santiago, natural de Quarteira, é hoje uma figura central da música portuguesa. Em termos musicais trabalha a tradição cabo-verdiana com o peso contemporâneo da eletrónica global, como prova o hino “Kriolu“, com a colaboração de Julinho KSD e co-produção de Branko. O artista algarvio, porém, já ultrapassou qualquer fronteira musical e social. Com um ano de 2022 absolutamente avassalador, a começar pela lotação esgotada no Coliseu dos Recreios (Lisboa), passando por momento incontornáveis como o NOS Alive, MEO Marés Vivas, entre outros, o músico português afirmou-se cada vez mais como um dos principais protagonistas da música contemporânea feita em português. Dino D’Santiago agrega público e crítica, todos juntos numa multidão que agora também se junta os seguidores do The Voice Portugal (RTP), programa televisivo no qual o músico algarvio assumiu o papel de mentor. FOMO é um espetáculo imersivo pensado para espaços não convencionais onde o público não se senta: circula, observa, escolhe, perde. Partindo do conceito Fear of Missing Out, expressão popularizada pela Geração Z, o espetáculo mergulha no medo constante de ficar para trás, de não estar no lugar certo, de não viver “o momento certo”. Entre notificações invisíveis, vozes fragmentadas e ações simultâneas, os jovens espectadores são confrontados com uma pergunta simples e inquietante: o que acontece quando tentamos estar em todo o lado ao mesmo tempo?
Os intérpretes constroem um universo acelerado, instável, onde o tempo parece sempre a escapar. Cada escolha do público implica uma ausência: ao seguir um percurso, perde-se outro; ao ouvir uma história, silencia-se outra. O espetáculo assume o erro, a falha e a frustração como motores narrativos, espelhando a ansiedade quotidiana de uma geração permanentemente conectada e permanentemente em falta. FOMO não oferece respostas fechadas. Propõe uma experiência sensorial e emocional que transforma o medo de perder em matéria cénica, criando um espaço seguro para falar de ansiedade, pressão social, comparação e identidade. FOMO is an immersive performance designed for unconventional spaces where the audience doesn’t just sit: they circulate, observe, choose, and lose. Based on the concept of Fear of Missing Out—an expression popularized by Gen Z—the show dives into the constant fear of being left behind, of not being in the right place, or failing to live “the right moment.” Amidst invisible notifications, fragmented voices, and simultaneous actions, young spectators are confronted with a simple yet unsettling question: what happens when we try to be everywhere at the same time?
The performers build an accelerated, unstable universe where time always seems to be slipping away. Every choice made by the audience implies an absence: by following one path, another is lost; by listening to one story, another is silenced. The performance embraces error, failure, and frustration as narrative engines, mirroring the daily anxiety of a generation that is permanently connected and permanently lacking.
FOMO offers no definitive answers. Instead, it proposes a sensory and emotional experience that transforms the fear of losing out into scenic material, creating a safe space to discuss anxiety, social pressure, comparison, and identity. In the end, what remains is the rare possibility to stop, breathe, and accept that missing out can also be a way of existing.

Num espaço quimérico, desprovido da realidade, surgiram os Heqets — entidades originadas nas Dez Pragas do Egito, lançadas ao mundo com o propósito de o destruir. Contudo, ao longo dos séculos, estas criaturas evoluíram até à atualidade, formando uma espécie de “máfia” clandestina que age precisamente contra o objetivo da sua criação.
Em vez da destruição, dedicam-se agora à cura de um planeta Terra à beira do colapso. As suas ações desenrolam-se nas sombras, através de uma estratégia de infiltração no mundo humano, com o intuito de alterar o curso do futuro.
No fim, permanece a questão inevitável: quem é, afinal, a verdadeira praga?

In a chimerical space, stripped of reality, the Heqets emerged — entities born from the Ten Plagues of Egypt, unleashed upon the world with the purpose of destroying it. However, over the centuries, these creatures evolved into the present day, forming a clandestine kind of “mafia” that acts in direct opposition to the very objective of their creation. Instead of destruction, they now devote themselves to healing a planet Earth on the brink of collapse. Their actions unfold in the shadows, through a strategy of infiltration into the human world, with the aim of altering the course of the future.
In the end, one inevitable question remains: who, after all, is the true plague?

Um ouriço que sai da hibernação e tem comichão nos espinhos, que na sua sede descobre o seu reflexo. E até a descoberta do dia das mentiras. Será que o dia da liberdade nos ajudou a poder dizer que “não”? Poderemos algum dia fazer um piquenique na lua? Através de uma abordagem lúdica e informal, convidamos todos a participarem no piquenique e que nos ajudem a contar estas fábulas, onde não se fica só a ouvir, mas onde o público é também um participante no piquenique.

This time, it will be the people of Culatra who host a storytelling picnic, sailing through the Ria Formosa, discovering the tides, and placing the sun in the sky! In this informal show format for families, we will also witness the mythical race of the animals of the Chinese zodiac and discover why, in the end, the horse did not win. A hedgehog awakens from hibernation with an itch in its spines and, while searching for water to quench its thirst, discovers its own reflection. We will even explore the origin of April Fools’ Day. Did Freedom Day help us learn to say “no”? And could we ever have a picnic on the moon?
Through a playful and informal approach, we invite everyone to take part in the picnic and help us tell these fables—where you don’t just listen, but where the audience also becomes a participant in the picnic. We invite everyone, young and old, to come celebrate with us an unforgettable afternoon, where stories take us on a journey through these picnic tales.

Ponto de Encontro é um espetáculo que nos leva para dentro de um teatro momentos antes do espetáculo começar. Entre aquecimentos estranhos, regras misteriosas, superstições, fantasmas e uma voz que nunca se cala, acompanhamos a preparação de uma artista que tenta fazer tudo a tempo…mesmo quando parece que o espetáculo nunca chega a acontecer. Neste espaço onde artistas e público se encontram, descobrimos que o teatro é feito de imaginação, escuta e partilha. Um lugar onde se ensaia, se erra, se inventa e onde a magia acontece antes, durante e depois de “subir o pano”.
No final, o palco abre-se às crianças, que são convidadas a criar o seu próprio espetáculo, transformando o teatro no verdadeiro ponto de encontro entre quem cria e quem imagina.

Ponto de Encontro is a performance that takes us inside a theatre, moments before the show begins. Amid strange warm-ups, mysterious rules, superstitions, ghosts, and a voice that never falls silent, we follow the preparations of an artist trying to get everything done on time… even when it seems the performance may never actually happen. In this space where artists and audience come together, we discover that theatre is made of imagination, listening, and sharing. A place where one rehearses, makes mistakes, invents and where magic happens before, during, and after the curtain rises.
In the end, the stage opens up to the children, who are invited to create their own performance, transforming the theatre into a true meeting point between those who create and those who imagine.

A história de Catarina Eufémia não tem princesas nem castelos, viagens a reinos distantes ou criaturas nunca antes imaginadas. É uma história de camponeses que trabalham a terra de sol a sol, a semear, a ceifar e a colher o trigo, que depois lhes será tirado das mãos. É uma história de injustiças, mas também de resistência. Catarina é a heroína desta história porque viveu uma vida dura, mas não perdeu a alegria e a vontade de lutar por um mundo melhor. Ela nasceu e morreu no Alentejo, enfrentou os poderosos e nunca deixou de cantar. No novo espetáculo do ciclo Antiprincesas, de Cláudia Gaiolas, vamos cantar com ela.

The story of Catarina Eufémia has no princesses or castles, no journeys to distant kingdoms or creatures never before imagined. It is a story of peasants who work the land from dawn to dusk — sowing, reaping, and harvesting the wheat that will later be taken from their hands. It is a story of injustice, but also of resistance. Catarina is the heroine of this story because she lived a hard life, yet never lost her joy or her determination to fight for a better world. She was born and died in the Alentejo, stood up to the powerful, and never stopped singing. In the new performance from the Antiprincesas cycle, by Cláudia Gaiolas, we will sing with her.

Num lugar à beira-mar plantado, a vida teima em acontecer.
Chegam barcos de casco nu, de cais de embarque húmidos e ferrugentos, sem protecção contra o sal nem contra o frio.
O destino é um contentor de luxo disfarçado, onde, longe da classe executiva de verdade,
se forjam futuros investidores filhos de um capitalismo opulento e distraído.
Ali as especiarias curtem as peles, as rosas viram rosários que dançam rumbas, e um fado ou uma oração serve de banda sonora a políticos trajados de Vistos Gold.
Mas uma voz grita mais alto: somos todos, afinal, da mesma terra!

In a place by the seaside, life stubbornly insists on happening. Boats arrive with bare hulls,
from damp, rusted docks, with no protection against the salt nor the cold.
Their destination is a disguised luxury container where, far from true executive class,
future investors are forged — the children of an opulent and absent-minded capitalism.
There, spices cure the skin, roses turn into rosaries that dance rumbas, and a fado or a prayer becomes the soundtrack to politicians dressed in Golden Visas.
But one voice cries louder than the rest: in the end, we are all from “The Same Earth”.

WOOW! é um espectáculo surreal, não verbal, que cruza a linguagem do clown com a comédia física.
Vindos de longe — ninguém sabe há quanto tempo viajam — duas figuras improváveis chegam com o seu universo ambulante: dois faróis de uma Vespa, um condutor de trotinete elétrica, um tapete rolante em movimento, luzes e engenhos quase mágicos. Explosivo, dinâmico, poético e cómico, WOOW! é uma performance urbana construída numa narrativa sem palavras, feita de encantamento e descoberta. Duas personagens surreais — algures entre palhaços, atletas e poetas — enfrentam desafios de equilíbrio, confiança e cooperação, transformando cada gesto numa oportunidade de assombro. Um homem arrasta um feixe de tubos de ferro de diferentes comprimentos, procurando um lugar onde chegar. Ao chegar ao local, os tubos desdobram-se de tal forma que o feixe ganha a vida do homem que o segura, num vis-à-vis entre eles e os olhos que os observam.
Um suposto acaso faz com que “homem e tubos” expliquem algo mais do que ser apenas matéria. São história e memória. São esforço, obstinação e poética. São ruídos e dureza. E também leveza.
Idiòfona é trazer leveza à crueza, encontrar harmonia no meio do ruído e construir uma vibração comum. É uma ode ao prazer da experiência partilhada.

A man dragging a bundle of iron tubes of different lengths and looking for a place to get to. When getting to the place, the tubes unfold in such a way that the bundle takes the life of the man who holds it, in a wine-to-vis between them and the eyes that look at them.
A supposed chance means that “man and tubes” explain something more than being only matter. They are history and memory. They are effort, stubbornness and poetics. They are noise and hardness. And also lightness.
Idiòfona is to make light of toughness, to find harmony amidst noise, and to build a common vibration. It is an ode to the pleasure of shared experience.

Mas tudo muda quando ele decide que quer carregar tudo o que encontra pelo caminho, com a estranha e única inutilidade de armazenar tudo porque… se menos é mais… quanto mais será o “mais”?
Um espetáculo de comédia física para ser apresentado na rua, com o olhar e estilo pessoal de Carlo Mô. Mô transita da linguagem primária à poética, sempre apoiado nas coisas mais simples e no seu instinto de sobrevivência.

YOU: You. GUR: Primary instinct of pleasure and survival, causes an obsession with carrying things on your back. Carlo Mô appears with a wall on his back…and without an objective.. A physical comedy show to be presented on the street, with the personal view and style of Carlo Mô. Mô travels from the primary to the poetic language, always supported by the simplest things and his survival instinct.

Mulheres unem suas vozes, seus instrumentos e seu amor ao samba numa apresentação que traz o resgate aos grandes clássicos do samba, mas não deixa de apresentar o samba da nova geração, sempre dando visibilidade ao trabalho de outras mulheres, sejam elas compositoras ou interpretes.
O concerto coloca em evidência o samba e outros ritmos afro-brasileiros provenientes do samba de terreiro, a sonoridade dos tambores de mão (Ilú e Conga) estão presentes em grande parte dos arranjos criados para cada música, trazendo uma identidade sonora original sem esquecer das raízes. O grupo é formado por mulheres multi-instrumentistas de diferentes lugares do Brasil e do mundo que trazem suas singularidades e influências, resultando em uma apresentação singular cheia de força, mas ao mesmo tempo leveza, sem deixar de lado o ativismo e a resistência das mulheres que
ainda lutam por mais representatividade dentro do samba.

Women unite their voices, instruments, and love for samba in a performance that rescues great classics, while showcasing the new generation. This project consistently highlights the work of fellow women, whether they are composers or performers.
The concert brings samba and other Afro-Brazilian rhythms—stemming from the samba de terreiro—to the forefront. The resonance of hand drums (Ilú and Conga) is woven into the arrangements, creating an original sonic identity that remains deeply rooted in tradition.
The group is composed of multi-instrumentalists from various regions of Brazil and the world. Each artist brings her own unique influences, resulting in a performance that is both powerful and graceful. Throughout the show, the music serves as a vessel for activism and the resistance of women still fighting for representation within the world of samba.

Cerca de 50 estudantes do curso profissional de Artes do Espectáculo da Escola Secundária Tomás Cabreia, invadem as ruas de Faro com pequenas performances coreográficas, recorrendo à exploração do programa da MOCHILA – Festival Internacional de Teatro para Crianças e Jovens. No final da performance, entregam-no a quem passa.

Around 50 students from the Vocational Course in Performing Arts at the Tomás Cabreira Secondary School take over the streets of Faro with small choreographic performances, exploring the program of the MOCHILA – I International Theatre Festival for Children and Youth. At the end of the performance, they hand it to passersby.
